Charis Center Comedy & Coffee Poster

Problem: Charis Center, a local nonprofit organization, holds an annual fundraiser and requested a promotional poster advertising the event. The project’s scope was designing a poster promoting the featured comedian and two local businesses providing beverages and desserts. The featured comedian provided the photograph in his media kit.

Solution: The feedback received after posting my first five proposed portfolio pieces on the GRA 491 discussion board was reviewed and listed to make sure I considered each point. Classmate, Safiyyah Ghouse, and Professor Jamerson, both provided feedback for this piece and had different points. The one point both noted was to change the alignment of the text “tickets” to the right with the Special Day’s logo and to increase the size of 2022 and the word comedy. Special Days do not have a professionally designed logo, so removing the background was difficult, and I did the best I could with what I had to work with. To improve readability, a colored box was added behind the logos. Ghouse suggested changing the font for + cake to the same text as coffee (Ghouse, 2023). Implementing these changes improved the design and makes a strong deliverable. After several revisions based on feedback, the resulting poster shows attention to detail and the ability to implement feedback. The design has improved hierarchy which also assists with conveying the message and readability. This piece was professionally printed.
